Renovations cost money – loads, and loads of money. For homeowners getting the renovations, wrong is not an option. With so much at stake, you obviously have searched the internet for inspiration on what you could do to your home. And honestly, many of the home renovation projects documented on the internet look great no scratch that, they look stunning. But many of them only show the final product. Very few show what the homes looked like before the renovations. So to give you some ideas and hope that simple can work for you without draining your bank account, below are some crazy transformations that turned ruins into stunning pieces of art.
From Boring to Sexy
Looking at the above before and after image, it is almost impossible to believe that it is the same house in both images. The homeowner got bored of seeing the same old boring and boxy design and decided enough is enough. No more will they put up with being mediocre and with no curb appeal. So he/she went back to the drawing board and whipped up something trendy and a design that would stand the test of time. The results speak for themselves. The unit experienced extensive interior and exterior updates, and it paid off big time.
Charmed Once More
The house in the before looks like something that was built back in the early 1900s. Back in the day, this house must have been the bomb. With the tech and architecture back then, it was the trend of the world. However, with time, the design, color, and exterior of the home have become outdated. And besides that, the homeowner should be given a thumbs up since the house still looked in good shape. The windows, porch, and painting are spot on. But even with everything that the house had going on for it, something had to be done.
The after house shows the upgrade. Here, it looks almost as though the house has always been like that – elegant and standing out from the crowd of houses in the neighborhood. This is the perfect example of a sensitive renovation. All the details on the original house were maintained and handled with great respect. The colors were chosen and combined perfectly. The flower beds on the front are the icing on the cake.
Haunted House to a French Paradise
The house in the first photo looks like a home from a horror movie. The kind that you are waiting for a scary looking, floating ghost girls to emerge from. One might say that it is the angle of the photo that makes it look like so, but the trees hanging from the sides and the design of the house do not help the situation either. Speaking of which, the design of this colonial home looks somewhat French.
After renovations, the home is almost unrecognizable. Were it not for the windows on the roof and the French colonial home design that was maintained; one could mistake it for a home built in the recent past. The home is now a piece of art, a beauty worthy of long stares taking it all in. And with the chateau roofline and line blue doors, you would never know you are not in French if you were blindfolded on your way to this house.
Plain and Boring to a perfect dream home
Though an old architectural design, the before house does not look anything close to an artistic piece. If anything, it is plain and looks like a home movie directors would choose to direct a murder scene in. Honestly, it doesn’t look like any creativity went into the construction of this house.
But, who knew that little tweaks here and there were all it would take to convert the dead house into a Cinderella dream house – a home that every couple in the 21st century with okay pay would love to own? A new wooden beam and a new roofline and detailing are all that was used to bring this house to life and with a modern contemporary twist.
From Dust to Grace
No words can adequately describe the state the before house is in. There are so many things that are wrong that it’s shocking to see it still standing even though leaning to the side. It looks as though it had been abandoned by its owners or if that’s not the case, the owners have a serious lack of maintenance issue.
But what most thought is a gone case, a talented constructor saw hope and a house that steals the heart of many. The grass is most definitely greener on the other side. A home was built back in 1933 and that most could not walk into when it was abandoned is now a cottage of charm – the kind that one eagerly waits to see a Snow White or any other lovely damsel emerge from.
Epic Restoration
History has it that the before home was built way back in 1902. The grandparents of the current owners built the home for the family. Taking a close and keen look at the unit, one can tell that the house made a statement in the early 1900s. Time has, however, had its toll on the unit and now it is in shambles. The state of the house as seen in the image was also courtesy of a 1975 fire.
After some renovations, plenty of renovations at that, the house is back on its feet, bigger, better and stunning than before. Care was taken to retain and in some instances duplicate the original features including the spire, crown molding, and the roof while the original glasses were replaced and re-glazed to give the house that oomph. The entire restoration took almost a year to complete.
Conclusion
The results of the transformations speak for themselves. They may be simple and not showcasing the latest technology the 21st century has to offer, but nonetheless, the renovations are creative and have hit home runs on all occasions.
